What is World Olive Day?

World Olive Day , proclaimed by UNESCO in 2019, is celebrated every year on November 26 .

It aims to protect the olive tree and promote the values of peace, wisdom and harmony that it symbolizes.

Initiator: UNESCO proclaimed this day in 2019 during its 40th general session.

  • Objective: To protect the olive tree, a thousand-year-old tree, and to celebrate its symbolism of peace, wisdom and harmony.

  • Activities: Cultural events, debates, conferences and exhibitions are organized worldwide.

At O Kairos, we are dedicating this entire week to the olive tree, and what it represents.

Indeed, throughout this week, we will be exploring a different theme related to the olive tree: its heritage, its cultivation, its harvest, its taste, and its impact on our daily lives. This journey will lead us to November 26th, when an exclusive, one-day-only promotion awaits you.

The olive tree, a symbol of peace and resilience

“Olive branches are companions of peace.” - Plutarch

A sacred tree of the Mediterranean, resistant to fire, wind and time, the olive tree endures through the centuries.

It is always reborn.

He never rushes.

He is waiting for his moment, his kairos.

Today, we honor this tree that teaches patience and quiet strength.

What is its origin?

The olive tree is a Mediterranean tree that is thousands of years old, recognizable by its gnarled trunk and silvery leaves.

Originating around the Mediterranean basin, it is believed to have been domesticated several times in different regions, from the wild olive tree (oleaster). The first cultivations date back more than 6,000 years , probably on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean.

His journey then took him to Europe, particularly to the south of France, introduced by Greek colonists from Phocaea who founded Massalia (Marseille).

I present to you the Vouves olive tree in Crete. It is considered one of the oldest olive trees still alive on our planet. It is estimated to be between 2,000 and 3,000 years old. Branches from this olive tree are regularly used to weave the Olympic wreaths awarded at modern Games (notably Athens 2004).

Mavrolia, an Undiscovered Treasure

Today, we shine a light on a variety few people know, yet one that seasoned palates never forget: Mavrolia.

A rare olive oil with a mythical past
Born from an ancient and exceptional terroir, Mavrolia has been cultivated since the Mycenaean era (1400–1200 BC). It is one of the oldest indigenous varieties of Messinia.

Some say it was already present during the reign of King Nestor. A true survivor - it even endured the devastating fires of the 19th century.  Its tall trees, with their silvery leaves, bear small black fruits - mavro (μαύρο) meaning “black” in Greek.

An oil for those who seek authenticity

Balanced, organic, and rich with history, Mavrolia is one of the most distinctive oils offered by O Kairos.

A precious oil for those who appreciate:
• the purity of a preserved terroir
• the depth of an ancient native fruit
• a rare and authentic sensory experience

O Kairos Oil Cruets: When the Earth Shapes the Object

The O Kairos Oil Cruets

Each piece is handcrafted by Atelier Sud, then fired and glazed.

No two are ever the same: each one carries the imprint of the maker’s gesture, the climate, and the clay itself.

Pyrgos Collection
Straight lines, a slender silhouette — it echoes the stone towers of Messinia.
Its color, nuances, and textures are the result of true artisanal craftsmanship.

Pyrgos comes from ancient Greek πύργος (púrgos): tower, fortification, elevated structure.

Kyma Collection

All curves and fluid lines, it evokes the movement of the waves. Its shade is always a surprise, entirely shaped by the intensity of the fire - each kiln opening reveals something new.

That’s why no two cruets are alike: every piece is a unique variation shaped by hand and flame.

From ancient Greek κῦμα (kŷma), meaning wave or undulation.

Amphora Collection

Its shape is inspired by the ancient amphorae that once crossed the Mediterranean carrying olive oil.

Amphora comes from ancient Greek ἀμφορεύς (amphoreús), literally “carried by two handles.”

Atelier Sud

Atelier Sud creates and showcases an eclectic collection of unique pieces: ceramics, porcelain, paintings, bronze sculptures, silver jewelry with natural stones, as well as original textile works.

Olive Tree & Transmission

Our olive grove is growing.
Two months after preparing the soil, 23 young Koroneiki olive trees - five years old - have joined our parcel in Kaplani. Each one was carefully selected for its vigor and its ability to take root in this unique terroir of the southern Peloponnese.

Planting is an act of transmission.
On these ancient terraced walls, beside the old Kalamon trees that bear the famous Kalamata table olives, every new tree is a promise: the promise of producing, tomorrow, an exceptional olive oil one that respects nature, time, and tradition.

Nature now takes over: earth, water, wind, and sun.
An olive tree planted today will live on for your grandchildren. 🌳🌿
