Superior category olive oil obtained directly from olives of the Mavrolia variety and solely by mechanical means.
Mavrolia is a rare and delicate olive variety, grown exclusively in the southwestern Peloponnese, around Pylos. It was the main olive variety during the reign of Nestor (Mycenaean period, 1650-1200 BC), making it the oldest indigenous variety in the region.
Olive trees extend over several hundred hectares around the Palace of King Nestor. Their fruits, small in size and difficult to set , are black in color, hence the name Mavrolia (mavro = black, elia = olive). The harvest takes place from October to the end of November, with a moderate yield. This variety is particularly sensitive to climate change .
It is an oil with a unique character.
Mavrolia 100% extra virgin olive oil reveals balanced organoleptic characteristics, marked by a pronounced spiciness and a more subtle bitterness .
Its intense aromatic profile reveals notes of tomato, ripe fruit, almonds and tangy fruit . In the background, more delicate aromas of freshly cut grass, pepper, aromatic herbs and butter enrich its complexity.
This exceptional quality olive oil is extracted at the Karambotsos Mill, in Ampelofyto, Gargalianoi, Messinia, Greece.
